Slow Connection and Email
Hi all,
I'm a full-on Mandrake user, also use Knoppix; and we use CentOS at the office; but I do have a funny at home.
I use Mandrake 10.1 and have a Serial Modem; but my problem is the connection speed. In WindowsXP I get a connection speed of around 46.6 kb/sec, and in Mandrake 10.1 I'm getting around 5 kb/sec (a max of about 10 kb/sec). I googled around for hours and found a lot; from changing entries in the resolv.conf file, add lines in modprobe.conf file etc. It does not look like it helped, and now that's why I rather describe my problem and ask you geniuses for help :-)
Now even though I can at least browse the Internet, the other BIG issue is that when I try sending an email with an attachment it takes forever, and sometimes crashes (files between 70 and 180 kb).
Just to add, I have added the ISPs DNS server's IPs to KPPP but this did not make a difference. This helps with connecting to the Internet, even though the first time it dials it times out and when I then click connect it connects.
Sorry for the mixed up e-mail, but let me sum it up :
1- Am having extremely slow response on my Dial-up connection.
2- Emails with attachments goes through sometimes, but not always (files are only between around 70 to 180 kb).
3- KPPP does not connect the first time I click connect (it times out), and I have to click connect a second time (The time-out is set to 60 seconds).
Ps : So by the way, I have also tried connecting to the Internet with my Knoppix Live CD, and then I only get a connection speed of max 3 kb/sec. I don't know if this helps with the whole thing.
Is it possible that there could be a setting where one can specify the serial port max speed ? (Just a question)
I really hope someone can help me out here .
Thanks chaps !
Pieter
