Hi, earlier this night I downloaded the Slackware 7.1 ISO image, burned it to a CD, and installed it. It was a full install with all packages, I have a hewlett packard pavilion. I partitioned my hard drive to have both windows and linux on it. After I finished the install, I rebooted, logged in as root, and attempted to run startx to get X going. The screen went dark for a moment, spewed a bunch of technical stuff, and said:

Fatal server error:
Open_framebuffer: failed to open /dev/fb0 (No such devise)

The command line and everything else works fine. Also, do you have any idea how I can setup AT&T @Home service? I have an external cable modem connected through USB and AT&T isn't helping any. If you can help me overcome atleast one of these problems I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You will need to run xf86config, and resetup your X windows. That has happened to me before on the initial install with Slackware. About the setting up @HOME with USB goto this site, I haven't heard of anyone getting this to work yet but this is your best bet here..... http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/book1.html

I thought I once saw one type of driver that might work with ethernet type controllers called pegusus, but forgot the link. According to http://www.linux-usb.org on the vendor list, ethernet communcation type usb devices are still in development.

Hope this helps.

Can't help you with the @home portion of the question, but on the startx problem, check out this thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...?threadid=1253

It may help, or you may have to do the same thing I did, which is reinstall.
