Everytime i install Slackware ( or any other linux distro ) i`m never shure about which packages i really have and need to install , as i surely not going to develop anything or even put up my machine as a server , nor use anything else from Gnome apart mozilla , galeon and abiword , for example . Is there any way that someone can give me a list of programs really needed . I`m a very basic KDE user , so i think i could squize my installation much more ( i disabled pcmia and and a few more , but that`s it ,cause i already tried others but the system wont work ok ) . thanks .

Slackware is a very lean install even if you installed everything on the disc. No #2 and 3 discs. When you install, just choose expert when you get to the package selection section and you'll be able to see which ones are required and which aren't along with their breif descriptions. Most sets except the first use an asterisk (*) to note required packages. Outside of those, get rid of those that describe something you don't or won't use, e.g. the N (networking) section, you probably won't need Bind or Apache (if you aren't setting up a webserver) etc...

You could attempt to do it the debian way. just install the asterisked packages and then if you find after install that something you want doesn't work then install it with the package manager. just become root and then type and you'll get the menu that you got when installing slackware.
