Slackware 9 mixer settings
 

Hi, I am running slackware 9 on a mitac 7521 notebook, and I have gotten everything running pretty smooth except for one problem. In gnome, the mixer settings always return to a low setting after a reboot, and I can't hear anything until I open the mixer back up and increase the volume again. I wonder if there is a way to change the default setting of the mixer (gmix) to the level I choose? It doesn't have this problem in KDE using Kmix, as there is an option to use the current settings as default, but I can find no such setting in gnome. I have tried google, but nothing I find there has worked so far. so far I have tried : aumix -(command not found; man aumix - no entries) could not find any reference in /etc/rc.modules/* to any default mixer settings. I'm sure I am overlooking something simple, but I seem to be getting nowhere fast. Thanks.

If you install aumix (it's on your Slack CD) you can use a file called aumixrc
However, I've found Alsa to be a bit easier with all this, and I use the alsactl restore feature (about every hour) and the alsactl store each shutdown.

When you install aumix you should (haven't used it for a while, you might need to check for man aumixrc) be able to browse man aumix and find the info.

Oddly, I was unable to find aumix or alsa on my cd, so I ended up downloading aumix-2.7-i386-1.tgz. After I installed the package, I ran aumix a few times 'till I got the sound levels at a comfortable level. However, it still did not load at boot time. So, as a quick fix I saved the mixer settings to /etc/aumixrc and added aumix -L to rc.local and it works pretty well, although not as pretty as a sysVinit script (when I learn more about the sysvinit process I will try a startup script for these settings.)
