I just installed slackware 8 on my workstation. A very nice distro indeed. I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to Xserver because i don't depend on it. My linux server consists of a computer w/ no perhipials. But anyway, i got Xserver working correctly, but its default windowmanager is KDE, and i have been struggling to find out how to switch to another windowmanager. In redhat, you can edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop or .Xauthority-defaults Neither of those, exist in slackware. I wanted to try enlightenment or maybe gnome.
Yeah, thanks alot! I just edited ~/.xinitrc Such a small problem, and now for a more complicated one. I have a SoundBlaster Audigy soundcard, and I have heard that they do not make modules/drivers for the audigy because it is too new. But i have also heard people have used ALSA to get theirs working. Am i out of luck, or can it be done?
Ok, thanks alot. I'll give it a try! One more thing! How do I disable these quotes when i login, or open a terminal? I've looked for ~/.bashrc /etc/profile ~/.profile and some other files, but i just cant find it! Thanks
Jacob
On my zipslack system, those quotes are from a piece of code in the /etc/profile script file. It calls a script file in the /etc/profile.d folder. There are two script files there: bsdgames.sh and bsdgames.csh. You could rename the offending script file.
I am seemed to be out of luck, it says page is not found, the driver is not for me I have SBLive!X-Gamer card, which works fine under linux, it is for my friend, he has Audigy card, and he spits on his windows system, I am converting him to a happy penguin now, but had no luck with sound yet, I borrowed him my old ISA sound card for now( I am not sure which streamline of Creative cards it belongs to, it is a Creative card). So if you can e-mail to me at b_artemyev@yahoo.com the attachment I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
Regards, neo
Opps... I am a lazy bustard, I found it on sourceforge, did a google search and there it was, so you can ignore the above.
Thanks, neo.
