Slack 9 with HP deskjet 970cxi

Hi guys.

I new with Linux and I just installed slack 9.
Now I'm trying to set up my printer ( HP deskjet 970cxi ).

I tried Linuxprinting.org, but on this sites there are lots of long texts and my english is kind of bad, so I couldnt understand much of it.

Well, all in all, I installed ghostscript-8.00 ; zlib ; lipng and others packs and I also downloaded HP deskjet 970c PPD file, but dunno what I should do now.

I took some clicks in Peripherals >> Printers and took a look around there, but almost sure I didnt do the right thing.

How should I go on with this?

Tnx in advance.

caio,

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but I think that particular printer is a "Win" printer, meaning it was made to work specifically with M$ Windows.

That's why you don't normally see drivers for it. Maybe someone out there has written a driver, but you may have to do a lot of searching.

I'm not sure what the 970 PPD thing you refer to is. PostScript printer driver?

There were a few HP printers made in the late 1990s in that series that were "Win" printers. I have an 820Cxi at home that is very similar and I gave up on it years ago.

Good luck.

Not sure how helpful this is, but this HP Page has links to Linux printing drivers (in fact, the inkjet link has a number of deskjets on the list of supported printers).

Hope this helps.

I strongly suggest you don't double post ever again. It's against
the rules. You should pick the most appropriate forum to post
your question in, and leave it. You can always *bump* your thread
if it's been a few days and there are no responses, but please don't
double post. If you feel you posted your question in the wrong forum
simply let a moderator know and they can move it for you if they choose to.

Cool
