Signing Up to a ISP using Linux only support
 

my story,
Ok, i'm leaving windows after being on and off with linux since 2002, I just had a crash and lost some files yestarday and with the spyware and crap im moving to linux. I'm going to install fedora 1 and Arch. I will use that to replace windows. since i only listen to music and browser the web etc... it'll be no big lost at all. I'll have slackware and Gentoo installed too so i can learn linux. the thing is im running low on disk space and need my last cd-rw to burn Ultimate Boot CD onto so I'll be deleting my last copy of windows for it. i don't need to buy any more cds either as i wont burn anything eles.


So to the point. what if i wanted to sign up with another ISP. I know they all have there little ISP cd installation disk that you will have to install to setup your account like verizon. I'll be moving this summer and later on have my own place and will sign up for net access then, will i not be able to sign up for net access if i can't install the cd threw linux?

thats the only problem i have with having my pc dedicated to linux.

Well, you will be able to connect to the Internet using any ISP. Seriously, I never even used those cd's with windows!

Mostly those CDs only install the networking settings on your pc, and you don't need them b/c on linux you should be doing it manually. A very small minority of crappy ISPs use proprietary dialing software.

I.E. aol which suxors

Verizon require users to install it which config settings and to apply and setup a account with them. As long as i can setup an account over the phone, by them giving me a user name and password. i wont need windows.
