significance of noeol

i am serving some pages with apache using mod_deflate. i am having problems with some javascript files - most times it works, some times it doesnt.

when i vi the file with the issue, i notice it has noeol.

"slider.js" [noeol] 283L, 10790C

a 'wc -l' on the file shows '282 slider.js'

what is the significance of noeol?

i've not seen it before, but it would suggest that there is no End Of Line character at the end of the file, which there normally should be for easy to parse files.
