Shrinking NTFS and other partitions with GParted

I intend to make changes to the sizes of several partitions: shrink an NTFS partition and a FAT32 partition, and enlarge ext3 partitions. The contents of the NTFS and the FAT partitions must remain intact.

Would using GParted for this purpose be safe, or are there any known issues with these operations? In particular I am concerened about changing NTFS partitions.

gparted is probably the safest GUI front end. It invokes ntfsresize which is rock-solid.
Get the latest liveCD (only 30Meg) to ensure you have all the latest utilities.

Edit: how did I forget to mention backups.
Back it all up before you start.
