should i format X partition after creat Y partition
 
hello ..

i have winXP , and i have 2 partitions C and D , i want to create E partition and get 5 gig from D partition .

my question , should i format D partition after create becuse my friend tell me the programme will format D partition .

and 5 gigabyte good to install miniSlack ?

NTFS resize operations do not require formating of the 'source' partition. Just make sure that the partition is completely defragmented (no fragments/files at the lower end). Althought you should not lose any data, you should always do backups!
