Question should convert my nt4 server to Linux and use it as a proxy filter to stop porn

There are multiple forums this post might fall under but, this seems like likely one to me. So admins feel free to place else if you so desire.
I am starting to wonder if I should convert my nt4 server to Linux and use it as a proxy filter to control the content my 12 year old son gets to, i.e. I am going to stop him from getting at internet porn
I have a small (3 computers) home network. The server is rather dated, an ASUS P2B 600MHZ with 320 Meg of ram. 4.5 gig scssi system drive and a 160gig data drive formatted NTFS. I have 200 gig external drive I plug in for backups, so I am not worried about loosing data when converting to Linux. The two workstations both dual boot from windows, to Mandriva 2006 club Linux.
I want everybody here but my girlfriend and myself to use Linux and go thru the proxy server / filter all the time and us most of the time. I have extensive experience with windows but am new to Linux. I am sick and tired of the B.S. that comes with windows. Click on the wrong link and you get a little something extra. Worse case you get a hijacked system or a key logger stealing your info. Shove in a Sony C.D. and get yourself a root kit opening you up. I can surf intelligently and so can my woman but I trust no one else.
Is my server hardware too dated? And what software for proxy and filter do you recommend.
Can I set the log in times like I can from nt4 server that users can log in?
What back up software can I use? I have been using ghost but that is getting very clumsy as it runs in a DOS environment and so must span the image several times.
There are a lot more questions, but I might not understand the answers.
Any thought on any or all would be appreciated. And I am sure there are many more concerned parents out there looking for good answers.
Thanks

Personally, I have found that, instead of dual boot, set up windows under linux as a virtual machine. Linux file and memory management is so much better and file archiving tools, including CD/DVD burning software come standard with linux, as in file-roller, xcdroast and k3b (these should be included in your linux). Given that your linux is Mandrake 2006, I would suggest qemu, parallels (http://www.parallels.com) or SVISTA (http://www.serenityvirtual.com) as the virtual machines to use to get windows running under linux. But, be prepared to get your hands dirty in figuring out how to set up the virtual machines. Then, setup windows to connect to the internet from the virtual machine. The overwhelming advantage of having windows run in a virtual machine is that, if windows gets hijacked, you simply wipe out the virtual machine's image files, replace them with copies of the latest uncorrupted files that you saved and your windows is back in business, in about 30 minutes instead of multiple days. Further, this also serves as a barrier to anything coming over the net taking down your computer as a whole. You might want to upgrade your processor from a P3 600 MHz to a P4 2 GHz or equivalent (i.e. something along the lines of the AMD Sempron 2600+ that I have on the ASUS K8V-X motherboard that I have).

right, your server is dated, but it has a lot of ram.
Put puppy linux inside, the fastest main-stream linux distribution in the world for the desktop.
After that install squid, the web proxy cache and a filter for it.
Anyway, what's wrong with porn? Wouldn't it better to block violent/dangerous pages? (Sorry out of topic)

Not so out of topic...because porn is violent and dangerous, in one of the ugliest senses known.

AFAIK, Dans Guardian is the only (free/well known) way to filter content in Linux.
