This is not a shell script question...it's an icon question, and therefore a desktop environment question. If it were a shell script question, I or someone else may have been able to help, but as we know nothing about what desktop environment or window manager you're using, the only thing we can do is suggest that you give more information about your problem.

I am still learning basic linux heirachy. I figured that since ithe icon I wanted to change was linked to a shellscript that it was a shell problem anyway if any one could help me heres the nittygritty: I am completely ignorant about the command line. So anything i try to configure or change i try use a graphical interface. That said my computer is running yoper v2, kde 3.3,
2.6.8 kernel. what i am trying to do is put an icon on my desktop to start firefox 1.0 preview version. I downloaded the preview version and uncompressed to /bin. the installer started and installed firefox but i have no icons in the start menu or on the kicker panel. any help would be appreciated

so all you need to do is create a "new link to application" on the desktop.and browse to the place where you uncompressed the icons of the firefox
