Sharing partitions

Hi all,
Currently I'm planning on installing 4 distros on my computer:
RedHat Fedora Core 1
RedHat Fedora Core 2
RedHat 9
Suse 9.1
I need all these because I'm in a testing enviorment my question is are
there partitions beside swap that i might be able share to conserve space.

Thank You

You can probably share a /tmp partition. Things might get confusing if you try to share something like /home.

I would not recommend trying to share any partitions except swap, due to the fact that different distros can put things in different places, and thus conflicts could easily arise. It may be possible to share certain directories, but in my experience it's better to treat each distro independently. Note also that keeping things independently will give you greater flexibility - you can remove/update each distro without concern that it might affect others. In contrast, if you do share directories and then decide to remove one of the distros, you'll end up retaining a lot of junk leftover from that obsolete installtion.

That being said, since these distros are all being installed for evaluation purposes, you should be able to easily fit all 4 on a single 20G drive, giving each distro 5G. That should be plenty of space to install each one, and of course if you've got a larger drive that will give you more breathing room.

Finally, you might consider that since Redhat, FC1, and FC2 are all very closely related, you might want to check out something from a different pedigree, such as Slackware, Debian, Mandrake, etc. That would offer a wider range of features provide you with a greater "compare and contrast" environment. Good luck with it -- J.W.
