Shared user account through several linux systems

Hi all

I'm investigating the posibility of having a shared user database through several different linux systems.

I got several linux systems that I want to share user information with. So that when adding a new user I don't have to add a new user on every system but to add one user on one system and the others would check to see if the user exist by looking on that "master" system.

I would also want this system to be able to grant or deny access to certain systems in my setup, so that for instance a new user can get access to my mail server but denied access to my CVS server (they can reside on the same system, the mail and CVS that is).

Anyone that can give me some pointers to what I should look into?

Thanks in advance =)

I never got around to doing it, but I was going to fiddle with something like this once before. If they're all linux computers, I believe the answer is called NIS. If they're a mixed environment (linux and XP Pro), I believe you want LDAP.
