hello all,
I'm really having a time telling my box what is what, this is my objective:
1: primary HD - hda
2: primary slave - cdr rom - hdb
3: secondary HD - hdc
4: empty
i have my hda jumper set on master
i have my hdb jumper set on slave
i have my hdc jumper set on master
ok heres the problem, my computer will not reconize my cdr rom as a primary slave, cant get anything to boot from it or anything.
on my hda my master bus in pluged in
on my hdc my cdr rom bus is pluged into slave ( i'd tryed flipping from master to slave with no results)
my question is are my jumpers right, and how do i get my computer to reconise what hd i want where?
i hope i havn't confused anyone, i have tried to find out myself via internet, but still can't figure it out

Rep:
some older hard drives require you to set a jumper, master with slave present, to have
a slave show up on the same cable with it. yours probably isn't that old.
the master should be at the end of the cable.
the red line on the cable should be at pin 1 (usually closest to the power cable) on
each drive.
some drives just dont' work well together. put the cdrom on the secondary slave if necessary.

Dd you check your hda jumpers? Like whansard said, some drives have a jumper for {master/no slave} and then a different jumper setting for {master/with slave}. Some drives have a fairly complicated set of jumper configurations.
How about in your BIOS. Are your drive settings set to Auto or some other setting? Also, have you set your boot up sequence?
itsjustme, y all those setting are correct, so how will I install slackware on my slave drive, dont seem to be an option in setup for hdb only hda,hdc and so fourth
whansard, y bois sees primary, slave and cdr rom / and windows sees the drives too. im guessing linux is asking me if i want to install on hda or hdc, and does not give me an option for hdb, where i want linux
