Setting up cvs server

Hi,

i'd like to tryout cvs on my local server. So i've compiled and installed cvs.

Now i wanted to start the cvs server with
Code:
tcpserver -u 99 -g 99 0 2401 /usr/local/cvs/current/bin/cvs --allow-root=/cvsroot &
"ps axu|grep tcp|grep cvs" tells me that its running, but i just cant login to the cvsserver with "cvs -dserver:username@host:/ login". I'm beeing asked for a password, but nothing happens after having entered it - After some time i get the following message:
Code:
cvs [login aborted]: connect to host(192.168.1.20):2401 failed: Connection timed out
Some additional info:
cvsroot -> /cvsroot (owner nobody (uid 99))
I created the dir /cvsroot/CVSROOT/ and a file named passwd with a password im using in a .htpasswd file

So what am i doing wrong?

tia, sky

Well, i finally got it working
But when i try to login it takes alot of time until i can do a checkout.
And the cvs server is connected with 100 mbit/s to my pc. So it should go much faster.
Does anybody know how to speed this up a bit?

s.

HOW did you setup your CVS Servre

Any assistance might help -- I try running it, and it does NOTHING, not even open port 2401.

Any assistance would help, I needed to get this running yesterday.
