setting up a symlink?

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a symlink so that my final result is:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Mar 20 2002 tmp -> ../var/tmp
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 'tmp' directory is in /usr/tmp and its current permissions are
drwxr-xr-x. I want to setup the symlink to point to /var/tmp so the output would be as above. Can anyone give me the syntax? I always seem to end up with a tmp orphan file and that's it.

Thanks for any help!

From the man pages:

ln [OPTION]... TARGET [LINK_NAME]

don't be a muppet drew... seeing as the symlink is meant to go to a directory one level higher, /tmp doesn't make sense. pah...
