Setting environment variables in Java

While working on Java, how can we set the environment variables. The 'SET' command does not work on the command prompt.

Maybe I can help.

are you speaking of setting the path to java? If so I use the following.

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/java

you may have to adjust the path of course.
