Smile setting default mail browser and email client

Hello, I have Mandrake Linux 10.1 Final and I am currenty using the new Firefox 1.0 web browser and also the new thunderbird 1.0 email client. When I browse the interent and find a link that says for example "click to mail Joe" and it is a mailto link, I click on it and nothing happens. I think this is because I need to set Thunderbird to be my default email client. I have no idea how to do this. Also when someone sends me a link via email and I click on it, it automatically opens konqueror. Is there any way to have it use Firefox as my default web browser? I really appreciate the help and I am loving linux. It hasn't been an easy switch from windows but I am getting use it and I can see why everyone loves it.

If your using KDE look under the Configure your desktop for setting your default email and browser.

when I go to configure my desktop I can select component chooser. From there I chose firefox to be my default mail client but still when I click on the mailto link it doesn't bring anything up. If I use Konqueror instead of Firefox, it now brings up thunderbird as my email client. It must be some sort of setting in Firefox. As far as my default browser, I can't find anything in configure my desktop. Maybe there is a setting somewhere else or maybe I am missing it. Thanks for the quick reply. Any more comments would be great as well.

in my component chooser I have the options of choosing email client, embedded text editor, and Terminal Emulator. Those are the only options that are there for me to choose from. Is there a way to add web browser to the list?

in your ~/.bashrc add the following

BROWSER=Firefox

export BROWSER

This might work

I tried adding those lines to the fiile and it didn't seem to do any good. It still thinks that my default web browser is Konqueror and my favorites in the start menu still show Konqueror's bookmarks. Thanks for trying and for the help.

The bookmarks will always show Konqueror's -- as far as the default browser 10.1 should have the web browser component

I tried installing epiphany and mozilla of the mandrake CD so that the operating system knew I had more than one interent browser thinking that this would possibly add web browser to the component list but unfortunately it didn't. Oh well. It isn't a big deal and I will have to just deal with it. Thanks for all of the help.
