server-error-service-unavailable lpr printing
 

Hello all, I have been googleing for the past hour and can't find any thing that seems to be relavent (well as far as I can tell) so sorry but I am here.

I have just been trying to set up my laptop to print on our network at work. The network abmin guy tells me this netwotk uses lpr and not CUPS. Everything seems to be about cups. This is what I did.

I added this line to my /etc/hosts file

printer_ip_address ljpg

I coyped this from the hosts file on another computer on the network.

Now if I try and print a file with this command which work fine from other computers on the network.

$ lpr -Pljpg_raw report.pdf
lpr: error - unable to print file: client-error-not-found

Is the error I get. So I try

$ lpr -Pprinter_ip_address report.pdf
lpr: error - unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable

Now I can ssh in to other computers on the network using their i.p addresses. Could someone please explain what is wrong as I have no idea what so ever about printing (obveously). I guess that for some reason my computer is not seeing the printer. The printer is directly on the same network and we are both behinde the same firewall if that is important.

P.S I also coyped over my .ICEauthority file from one of the other machines as I stuipily trusted what I was told. This has now made it impossible to lanch konqourer. Any idea about this as well
