Server become very slow in response

Hi I have a CentOS 5 installed in a Dell Precision 490.

Recently the server become very slow and once rebooted you will feel speed back to normal(like windows argh!)

So, i tried to check the the memory

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 4148308 3150700 997608 0 112984 2857896
-/+ buffers/cache: 179820 3968488
Swap: 6193144 120 6193024

We can see it is using almost 3GB, i am quite sure this is causing it to slow. Then i check on Top, however no result found.

top - 12:52:24 up 4 days, 22:56, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
Tasks: 115 total, 1 running, 114 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.0%us, 0.0%sy, 0.0%ni,100.0%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st

Swap: 6193144k total, 120k used, 6193024k free, 2857896k cached

There is no rsync or vnc is loading. I have no clue and need your advise on this weird case. Even ls -l command is taking around 5-10seconds to produce output.

Please help! Thank you.

Whatever is slowing your machine down, it's not CPU or memory
bound, looking at those values above. Have a look at the output
of dmesg to see whether your HDD or maybe some I/O component is
in trouble (also check the varied logs under /var/log).

Cheers,
Tink

Hi,

thanks for the input. I have resolved this as it is caused by ypbind issue.
