Hello , i had deleted my pclinuxos due to some work and now i have reinstalled it , on the EXACTLY same hardware , but now it doesnot detect my US-ROBOTICS EXTERNAL MODEM (serial) which it used to , Winxp seems to detect it and on same pc i am using net with same modem on windows to write this problem
what might its solution be ?
I have not used pclinuxos, but I am not sure why you need to "detect" an external modem. Don't you just point your ppp software to it or create a /dev/modem symlink to it and off you go?
Or do you mean that you have told it where it is, and your software can't talk to it?
Well , I got it working , you dont have to just go and configure the modem through PCLINUXOS Control Center -->Networking-->Create a new network Interface (LAN , Wireless etc).
From there first i asked it to detect it at ttyso1 / COM1 then provider bla bla bla and when you run kppp then you go to configure ---> modem and select its location to be ttyso1 again
forgot the first step
well i think that symlink creation thing , pclinuxos control center may very well be doing it in chezzy gui mode , If you can tell me the process of making that symlink on my own (commandline or someting??..... welll they way you were thinking i should perform that ) so i can try that in my other PLINUX installation that i would keep for TESTING and BAINGING it purposes , so i have atleast one 100% hale and harty linux system at all times (thatonez the pet to be testted so i would try it on that)
If you can tell me the process of making that symlink on my own (commandline or someting??..... welll they way you were thinking i should perform that )
To create a symlink named /dev/modem that points to /dev/ttyS1 (for example), use the following command as root:
ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem
If you want to check to see if the system has already created such a symlink, give the command
I am not saying you should do things this way. If your OS has another way to do things, by all means, go ahead and use it. My confusion over your question was because I wasn't familiar with pclinuxos.
--thanks , i did this ls -l /dev/modem and it displayed that :-
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Jul 7 14:17 /dev/modem -> ttyS0
well i guess , thats whats what the 1st step did , yeah i agree but i use linux to get mastery over command line coz it damn fast as we can see this , its just one command
instead of 100000 clicks and waits
thanks mate
BOTH OF THESE METHODS WORK , COMMANDLINE ONE WORKS FASTER .......... AND EASIER
