Sending email from a server

I have a website on my server which needs to send confirmation emails to people who have registered to the site, but at the moment it doesnt send mails.

What do I need to have installed on my linux box to enable this to happen?

sendmail or something along those lines. There are many others, sendmail usually comes installed by default on most distro's.

Consider using postfix instead of sendmail. It functions much like sendmail, so your website should work by default with postfix. It is, however, much easier to configure and secure.
