Selected item cannot fit into memory

I have a dual boot OS.
After installing & running some Norton system works utilities
on the Windows XP, I can not boot Linux. I get the following
error:

Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory
press any key to continue.

When I press anykey, the same error occurs.

I don't think Norton utilities touched the drive that I have
Linux installed, but it's possible it did something without me
knowing. Any tips?

cheers
Scott

probably altered your master boot record, boot the machine with the SuSE install disk and at some point you will be given the option to 'boot installed system' once back in linux, open yast and go to the bootloader config screen. you dont have to change anything, just launch it then save. or... at the root prompt type SuSEconfig, or... at the root prompt type fdisk /mbr

still did not work

thanks rshaw but "boot installed OS" did not work, I still get the same error message. Norton Utilities also installed GoBack incase I ever need to recover after a system failure, that's probably what screwed everything up.

Here's a bit more of the error message I didn't include in the original post

kernel (hd1,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=dev/bdb2 hdc=ide-scsi vga=791 [binux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, seize=0x1078c4]

Does anyone have any further tips? I think I might have to re-install linux (I have backups of my work anyway).

cheers

I had the exact same problem with an ASUS A7N266-VM MoBo. I upgraded to GRUB .93 and was finally able to boot. You can get it from here: http://people.debian.org/~nobse/debi...ckported/grub/
