seg faults happening

Hi,

I'm getting some strange happenings when i'm working on our red hat 9 machine. it was fine up until the other day when seg faults were occuring when i type an error in the command line. just say if i typed la instead of ls as a simple typo, i would get a seg fault when it should of just said la is not a command or something.

also another thing thats started happening at the same time is when i type a ";" in the command line i get logged out. i don't know whats going on.

thanks

This is either a hardware issue (RAM, chipset, CPU) or a software issue - like a vulnerable kernel with a do_brk()-exploit ...

i don't know about the hardware problem because we haven't changed the hardware and the system was working fine for many months.

so i could be a software problem. what can be done for it?
