Script Question

I am attempting to write a script that would run several commands in Kate's terminal rather than the usuall terminal.
Maybe something like:
kate
*open terminal of Kate
commands
Does anyone know how to do the *open terminal part? Thanks.

What would be the purpose of having the terminal open? What commands are you planning to run in your script? How are you planning to invoke the script, if by CLI you'd already have a terminal up and running I would assume?

more information

Here's some more information:
The goal is to run Matlab7 in the terminal of Kate. This way I could write m-Files in Kate and then also run them in Kate. The script looks ideally would look something like this, and would be invoked in terminal:

#!/bin/bash
# Opens Matlab7 in Kate's terminal

kate #opens Kate
#*go to kates terminal and input next command
/usr/local/matlab7/bin/glnx86/MATLAB # Starts Matlab7 in terminal
#*close original terminal
