Question Screenshot through SSH help

I'm SSH'ing to my Linux box at home, and trying to take a screenshot.
I type this in the CLI:

import -window root /somedirectory/picture.jpg

and get this:

import: UnableToOpenXServer ().

I get the same when I try it this way:

import -window root root.jpeg

What gives?

when you ssh to another box, you're not using x.
import on works if you are in an X environment

don't know how to take a screenshot without X, but you could take a screenshot of the window you're running your ssh connection in.
KDE and GNOME have their own programs, there's import and xwd

export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
( or whatever display your target X server is running on. )
followed by your import.
