screen, vimrc and bashrc

I use screen. I also have .bash_profile and .vimrc. But as soon as I get into the screen mode my .vimrc and .bashrc files are not read anymore.

Does anyone know how can I get my .bashrc and .vimrc working inside the screen shell?

I have just tried this, it seems to work for me. I am running Fedora Core 5 with version 4.0.2-12 of screen. I have "alias" lines in my ~.bashrc file & they all work from within a "screen" shell. I started screen from the bash prompt with both a normal user & as root, also from within a terminal emulator in X & from a normal tty terminal, all loaded my system wide bashrc file (/etc/bashrc) & my users .bashrc file (~/.bashrc)

What distro are you running & with what version of screen? How are starting screen? Do you start it manually from a bash prompt or some other way?
Maybe if I can emulate what you are doing I might be able to help!

I am running screen on OpenBSD 3.8. Screen version is 4.00.02. I just type screen to get into screen. Do I need to add anything in the screenrc file?

I probably should have mentioned that I am no expert with screen, I simply tried it on my system & it worked.

Can't see anything in my screenrc file that would do what you ask.

When you start screen does the prompt look the same as your normal bash prompt?, mine does.

The following is my screenrc file if you would like to copy it & try it. I have not modified it at all, it is fresh from the install of screen.
Code:
#
# This is an example for the global screenrc file.
# You may want to install this file as /usr/local/etc/screenrc.
# Check config.h for the exact location.
#
# Flaws of termcap and standard settings are done here.
#

#startup_message off

#defflow on # will force screen to process ^S/^Q

deflogin on
#autodetach off

vbell on

# only difference should be the slightly modified syntax, and check for
# terminfo entries, that are already corected in the database.
#
# G0 we have a SEMI-GRAPHICS-CHARACTER-MODE
# WS this sequence resizes our window.
# cs this sequence changes the scrollregion
# hs@ we have no hardware statusline. screen will only believe that
# there is a hardware status line if hs,ts,fs,ds are all set.
# ts to statusline
# fs from statusline
# ds delete statusline
# al add one line

I have solved this problem. I didn't have to do anything about the .vimrc. It was detected by screen by default.

The only problem is that .bash_profile is not detected by screen. You have to create a symlink to .bashrc.

ln -sf .bash_profile .bashrc.

Problem solved.

if you are having a problem with the vimrc not showing colors for example, the problem is the $TERM variable is being set to "screen" not "linux" or "xterm" so when you fire up screen use this

screen -T xterm
or
screen -T linux

and your vimrc will show properly
