screen blanking

I've read the various responses to "screen blanking" but wonder if my situation is more unique.

Quite simply, my screen blanks out after a random period of time in X - never the same. It acts like a screen saver since the display is restored if the mouse is moved or a key is pressed - yet the blank display is now default so I have to constantly move the mouse to see anything. Most disturbing is that when the screen is blank my internet connection almost lost, only to be restored when the display is back on.

I've encountered this problem with numerous distributions (slackware, gentoo, vector, peanut). Restarting X makes no difference - the problem happends again immediatly. The only way I can get a stable display (for a short or longer period of time until it blanks again) is to reboot.

My video chipset is sis620, I use a high speed dsl connection. I am currently using Gentoo linux. My moniter is a 14 inch IBM G50.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Richard

bad news

sounds like your video card is going out.

I guess time will tell - though my Windows XP on another partition works fine (though a little slower than it used to..)
Unfortunately the video card/chipset is integrated into the board - there is no way to bypass it. So that would be bad news indeed :(
