School and Academic Programs for Open Source material
I am wondering what and where are schools, whether online or not that offer good solid open source technology, and covets these technologies rather than offering them as second fiddle.
Most, or pretty much all schools I find are usually focused on Microsoft, Adobe, or Java technologies.
I understand Java is almost unavoidable, but if I could find a program that focuses more on Scala, that would be about perfect.
As for the Adobe alternatives, I understand that the problem may be due to the lack of completeness and long term stability, but if anyone knows of a good institution offering design using alternative technologies would be great.
I am getting sick of every search I make, no matter what link I hit I get those usual suspects of online private and overpriced sinkholes (You know what I'm talking about. I won't call any out by name. And no, I don't mind considering a good private school.). Although, if anyone knows or experience one of those places and feel that one of them may meet the criteria I'm looking for explained here, then I would love to hear about those as well.
I have researched O'Reiley School of Technology because I have grown to love their books and tutorials, but those programs seem to come up a bit short in my opinion of a rounded education. Also, reviews seem to point that the classes are really no better than just reading books yourself. That's what I'm gathering from reviews. I myself am very tempted to take the courses there, but not sure if I will get a good rounded education for the money spent. If anyone can provide some more reviews for that institution, I would appreciate it.
I am a self taught programmer, but understand that I have a lot of holes and gaps in my knowledge.
I would like to take courses that may give me fast track and solid understanding of many of the leading open source technologies out today, but am having problems finding the right institution(s) for my needs.
