Post samba configuration problems

Hello Everyone:

I have a W2k Pro PC and Redhat 8 installed on another PC. When I try to connect from linux to shared folder on W2K it asks me for password and then this error session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

i am new to configuring samba, I have the same user account on both machines and same password.

I would appreciate if anyone would give me a link to a web site or could help me with this one.

thank you

May I suggest buying a router? Besides keeping you and buddy computers safe, its probably alot easier to do. You would hook up your modem to the router, and then the router to computer(s). You can then configure the router to do the DSL stuff and have your linux box do DHCP on boot.

Try to download a copy of RH9. Write back q's

that means spending money and creating extra steps in what you can do.

I've set up this before, and it's quite easy. First let me say that it is good that you were able to get an ethernet dsl modem. What you need to do is disable boot up eth0 dhcp because with sbc you need to login into the dsl connection.

In order to do this you need to download a piece of software called RoaringPenguin, it's a very good PPPoE connecting software. btw, PPPoE is the type of connection you get with a DSL in which you login to access the internet.

Well, I suggest you setup your internet connection in Windows first, so that you get your email and their host name.

After you do this, then you take that information, put it into RoaringPenguin and connect. Voila! you have connectivity to the internet.

Remember you need to do this everytime you start linux. The only way you can avoid this is by doing what Tomasfuego said...but it's much more involved, meaning you need to go to the store blah blah blah, and waste of money really.
Okay, let us know how it goes bro.

How can a router be more involved? you set it up once and you would never need to "dial in" every time you turn your computer one...

extra plus..... you can share your DSL with other computers in the house/office with the router without charge. ttyl

for the above reasons

you gotta work more to get money to purchase a router. you need to decide on which router is better, and choose from a load of brand names.

And you don't dial in with dsl, you log in.

compare all of this with simply downloading a 200k free program, putting in your info and clicking a button to login into dsl.

yep, a whole lot more involved to get a router than to use Roaring penguin

SBC

When you got the SBC setup, what did you use for each of the settings?

I have the 2wire modem and I have attempted to setup using the roaring penguin software...

but I am a little unclear on what the usernames and passwords etc should be...

I have one login setting which is (for example)

bubba -which identifies my computer to 2wire
and a password

I also have bubba_smith@sbcglobal.net with another password which (as I understand it) is what I use to log onto sbc

I have tried several combinations, but I am sure I am doing something really really stupid... since you have it working can you give me some pointers?
