SaX2 - No screen detected

Hi all,

I'm trying to get SuSE 8.2 to display a hi-res GUI but failing miserably.

SaX reports being unable to find a screen (monitor) when trying to auto-configure my XF86Config.

I can see and use the text console but when X starts the screen goes black.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

That almost sounds like XFree is trying to detect a monitor that you don't have.

SaX and SaX2 are two different programs. Be sure that you are using SaX2. SaX is obsolete.

....Sorry, I meant SaX2.

I have a reply from SuSE if anyone else has this problem.

Despite the video working in SuSE 8.1 it appears that there may be a problem in 8.2 (which may effect several cards?)

The answer is to use probed frame buffer information to manually set up your card. It sounds horrible but is fairly easy.

The full fix is at

http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_fbdev_grub.html

:-)
