Saving parameters from a web interface into *.conf files

I'm using embedded Linux (3.0.34) on a Freescale QorIQ cpu. The only user interface shall be a web interface (with cgi executables) which handles access to all parameters and settings in my embedded router. Many linux processes/applications use a conf file for their settings.

What is the most common method(s) or way to edit these conf files via a web-server ? For instance, I have the problem that the user can enter several IP destinations to have syslog messages sent. So which way is best to accomplish this ?

Thanks, Peter
