Unlike Windows, under Linux you must first ensure that the media (CD/floppy/harddisk/network-share/etc) is mounted before you can access it. Under Mandy, first go to the directory /mnt, if there is a subdirectory called floppy, then you're laughing! Insert the floppy disk, go to the console/terminal and type mount /mnt/floppy. When you're done writing the document, save it to /mnt/floppy. Go back to the console/terminal and type umount /mnt/floppy. Eject the disk.

As for being able to read it under Windows. If you have downloaded AbiWord for Windows, then yes. If not, I would suggest you either download it (to support free software, and all ) or you use kword/open office, both of which almost fully support the horrible Microsoft Word standard.

I guess it would be different on Slackware . if you could just tell me something about it or where to find information on how to setup my floppy it would be great .

One question though, what does Mandy mean?
Sorry about that. I don't like giving my computers strange un-person like names. I find that feminine names works quite well for computers (and cars, etc) in that when it all goes horribly wrong you can swear at 'that bloody bitch...'. Since SuSe is a feminine name, Mandy seemed appropriate. I can't think of any for Slackware (perhaps Sally, but it just doesn't seem right ), but I had RedMond Amethyst in for a while, and guess what that was called...Amy! I know, it's very sad.
