I'm having a problem installing RHEL on a server that uses the sata_vsc module. Fedora Core 5 and Ubuntu 7.04 detects it and drives are accessible without a problem. RHEL5 and Debian 4 detect the hardware, tries to load the sata_vsc module, but it spits out some errors in dmesg and drives are unaccessible. RH support says that the module is the same for both RHEL5 and Fedora C5. Can anyone think of a reason why it doesn't work? When the installer tries to load sata_vsc, it takes a long time - 5 minutes or so.
The server is a POS Dell 745N with hotswap SATA drives.
From Debian4, I was able to get the following error message while sata_vsc was loading:
ata1: SATA link up is 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 388)
ata1.00: qc timeout (cmd 0xec)
ata1.00: failed to IDENFITY (I/O error, err_mask=0x4)
any ideas?
