Samba Question

I just installed Samba 3.0.4 (I'm new to Samba) on my Fedora Core 1 machine. Everything installed well (from what I can see) and I can't get the daemon to run properl.

I type the following

/usr/local/samba/sbin/nmbd -D
/usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -D

Typing either of these commands will put me directly back at command prompt. No error message or anything like that. When I do "ps -ef | grep smb", there is nothing found.

Here is what my smb.conf file looks like

[global]
guest account = pcguest
workgroup = MWGRP

I copied this file from somewhere on the web. I guess I want to just get the daomon up and running before I try better stuff.

Thanks for the help

Carl

There are a few ways to start smb ( as root user ) Here are a few....

1. open up a GUI tool with the command: redhat-config-services and start it from there.

2. type service smb status and service smb start

3. type chkconfig --list smb to see how is the status of smb
type chkconfig --level 35 smb on to set smb on for run levels 3 and 5
