samba create-permissions

Hi,

I've got a wierd problem with samba.
I have a slackware 11.0 linux server running samba. When I connect to the server (samba share) from my windows machine I can read, write and create files.

But when I create a share from a linux box (mount -t smbfs ...), I CAN read an write files, but cannot create files. I have tried this with several linux distros.

I have made sure that I have full permissions on the directory I use to mount the samba share.

This is a relevant portion of my /etc/samba/smb.conf

[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
security = USER

[blabla]
comment = blabla
path = /var/www
force user = nukey
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

Is there some configuration option for "file creation" ? And if there is, how come I can create files on windows and not on linux ?

And yes, I know it's a little wierd using a Linux server with samba (read: MS technology) and then using another Linux box to read of that samba share. And I know I could probably better use NFS but for now I'd rather have it like this.

Can anyone help me ?

Gr Robert (netherlands).

You could experiment with these options:

Code:
force create mode = 0777
force directory mode = 3777
And these ones can help, too:

Code:
writeable = yes
public = yes
Both of them should be in smb.conf in the share declaration.

Also, there are some differences between the way Windows tries to mount a samba share and the way smbfs tries it on Linux. Sometimes it helps to specify a username (usually not root) and things like uid and sid. I hope this helps. We have been using samba with other Linux boxes happily here for a year or two, so feel free to ask for more detailed help. However, we tend to learn the most from things we discover ourselves .

Duh, why didn't I think of this:

dmask=777,fmask=777 (mount options for smbmount/"mount -t smbfs")

before ;-)
