Running windows on linux or linux on windows

Hi,

I recently installed Gentoo on my laptop and I'm realy pleased with. But I really miss 2 windows apps, namely, iTunes and Picasa. I tried to run them using x crossover but I'm not very impressed: picasa runs, but lacks of a lot of functionallities and iTunes can't import CDs. So now I'm going to try vmware and install XP pro on Gentoo. I want to know if I do this will I be able to read files on my linux partitions from within my virtual windows machine. Cuz if I keep some or all my pictures on my linux partitions I need Picasa to see them... same thing for my mp3s and iTunes. Will it be better to run Gentoo under vmware under windows? And would coLinux be better for my needs? I moslty use Linux for programming.

Thanks

After you've emerged vmware-workstation, you have to run the vmware-config.pl executable. This will ask you 6 - 10 questions and one of them is something like "Do you want guest VMs to have access to the host filesystem". Say yes. Then accept the samba license.
Now you should be able to run the vmware binary. Create an XP virtual machine. You can configure the share before or after the installing XP onto the new virtual machine by going to that virtual machines properties. You'll probably have to enable legacy cdrom before installing XP anyways, so you might as well do it before starting XP's installation.

The short answer was YES

Oh yeah, WooHoo!! Another gentoo addict!!!
