Run level

In emacs /etc/inittab
where it says "Default runlevel, if I set it up to start in run level 6 (restart) will it just go into an endless loop?

Well considering if you setup to boot to runlevel 6 which is a reboot runlevel, yes, it will just reboot once its done running the script for runlevel 6. This isn't a good idea, as to setting it to boot into runlevel 0 to shutdown right when your booting up and so on..
