Run level 5 w/out a monitor

I have VNC (3.3.6) server installed on my Red Hat 7.3 box and I would like to be able to remotely login from my laptop. I no longer have a monitored hooked up to that box so it boots into run level 3 instead of 5 and all I get is a command line when I try to remotely login via VNC. How can I setup my box so that I get GUI screen instead?

you do *not* want to boot to X for a vnc server, just add the server command you normally use to /etc/rc.local or a similar file. you say that you only get a command line in your vnc window? if that's what you mean then that's not true, no possible. you will simply haven't loaded a window manager, to do this specify a valid manager in .vnc/xstartup

The run level is set to 5, I just think it changes to 3 during bootup because it doesn't detect a monitor

Possible or not that's what I get. It's like a remote login via telnet only encapsualted inside the java applet

But doesn't that require that I have a monitor attached? I'm trying to get the GUI over a network w/out a monitor attached to the remote box.

well if you get *anything* then you have loaded X. and like i said, not loaded a window manager
