Post run command on boot

How can i run a command everytime linux boots?
I am looking for something like dos autexec.bat where you can enter commands that will run when linux boots up.

Any info would help.

there are lots of places depending on what you actually want to do. the literal equivalent would be /etc/rc.local but this is a one off system wide run, not per user, not per login etc..
