RPMDB Recovery

I have recently installed RHL 9, everything went well, with the basic packages selected. I booted with the GUI and then decided to install the KDE packages as well with the development packages, that went well also, but when I rebooted to check what other packages I may want to install I found all of the packages unchecked as if nothing was installed at all. When I switched to console there was this message :
rpmdb error -> run db_recovery

I did the updatedb just right after the very first boot after installation.

This is something new to me. I really have no idea how to fix it.
Thanks in advance guys.

I think that your rpm db is corrupt. Just run db-recover as root and I think that your problem will be solved.

I had an exactly same problem during the installation of qt-devel and qt-designer under Redhat 9.0.
I deleted the databases using

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*

and then ran the rpm installation again and it worked.
