Angry rpm package manager

I'm using Redhat 7.2 with the KDE desktop. I'm trying to update some of my utilities such as Samba config, linuxconf, etc using package manager. Yet, every package I select whether it be something I download or try to get off the distribution CD's, gives me an error message.
The message just says "error opening package".

Any ideas?

how are you opening the packages ??

have you tried manually using rpm -i name-of-package.rpm ??

man rpm for more info and options when installing..
