RPM error with ati drivers


root@box:~/Desktop# rpm -i --force ati_drivers.rpm
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No such file or directory (2)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm




this is the same error code i get nomatter what syntax i use when attempting to install my ati drivers. these are the appropriate drivers i just renamed them. that doesnt make a diff either. please can someone help me with my prob?

how about if you exctract the rpm and install it by hand? google on rpm2cpio.

bah, it extracted them, i just dont know where they are. i would really like to get the RPM to work tho. unless someone has the source and such for it...

typically you pipe rpm2cpio's output to cpio then it should create files and directories somewhere along the line of

./lib
./usr
./etc...

is this ATI's fireglx drivers?

how do i pipe them through cipo, there is no man page for me to read

well if you have both commands on your system (you probably do)

then enter the following command

rpm2cpio ati_driver.rpm | cpio -ivd

(for more on this check out http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/s1-rpm-mi...-rpm2cpio.html )
