Seems like every answer to my previous posts reaps a new problem. I am trying to do this:

rpmbuild -bp --nodeps --target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec

but I get this:

6 out of 6 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file drivers/ide/legacy-ide.cs.c.rej

error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.50376 (%prep)

RPM build errors:

Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.50376 (%prep)

I have never installed a kernel from source before, but looking at this, I guess I failed. I am getting desperate here. What should I make of this? Do I need to edit the spec file? I don't have any legacy ide devices anyhow. Is installing kernel from source the only way I can get a /usr/src/linux-2.6.blah directory tree? If so, what can I do to build this kernel without it crapping out 1/16th of the way through. Better yet, how can I succeed? Please someone help - I am desperate!!
