rpm 32bit or 64bit detection

If you are accidentally trying to install a 64bit rpm software patch (say Veritas netbackup patch) on a 32bit OS, wont rpm detect this and not install?

Thx,
Rich

well yes, do you have something that disagrees with this? compiled code relies on machine level instructions which are substnatially different between 32 and 64 bit architectures, so they won't work.

No, nothing that disagrees, just that Veritas is stating that the wrong patch was applied and I wanted to verify that I did indeed install the correct patch. The patch actually does not specify 32bit or 64bit. It has installs for both, so I'm assuming it detects the OS and installs the correct version. Thanks for your reply.
