LinuxQuestions.org - root-tail question ?

i'm running slackware 10.0 and i can't seem to figure out how to run root-tail properly, the documentation talks about a bug as so:

Some desktop environments open a virtual root window 

and make it difficult to share it. If you  cannot

see  anything  after starting root-tail, try to find a setting 

"allow programs on desktop" or similar, or

 manually specify a window id.

all i know is that when i sign off, the root-tail document comes up on the screen, so i know i got the command correct but i just can't see it otherwise...

anybody got any ideas as to what i have to turn off or on, i'm using gnome 2.6 ?
