root password
i searched it and i found a couple threads about this but when do you press CTRL X to go single user? Somehow my root password doesn't work... Idk if somebody else in my house changed it or w/e. I found out that you hit CTRL X <kernel name> init 1 but do you press ctrl X before system boots up? Thanks a lot in advance. I am using redhat 9.0 btw.

Another way to do it would be to select the kernel to boot when grub loads, then press e to edit the parameters. When the kernel line comes up to edit, at the END of the line, add a space and type single. When your system boots you will be able to type passwd to change your root password.

okie dokie
Thanks Josh...I did a little differently but it was just because i cannot follow a simple set of instructions. lol. Instead of typing single at the end of the line, i wrote "init = 1" right after the kernel name and it took me to same place.

Hmmm, I didn't know that would work also, thanks.
