Root partition damaged, system will not boot- How to repair?
Hello,
I've booted up w/ a Knoppix CD to try to repair my system. I've got two partitions that will not mount, and unfortunately, one of them is the root partition. When I do fsck on /dev/hdb5 (root partition), I get the following error: "Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/hdb5 Could this be a zero-length partition?" I get the same message when I run fsck on the other damaged partition, which is /var. I'm able to mount all the other partitions under Knoppix.
Could someone please advise what I can do to fix this? Thanks very much,
Joe
