got a bit of a problem in my linux station:
when i boot the PC, i auto-login into the X as user 'user1'.
all works fine until i open the Konsole (within the X) and try to do "su -".
when i do that, it says that ive entered a "worng password".
when i use the same password (for root) while in the Console (ALT + F1 for exemple) it lets me to login to root.
for short:
i know the password for root is correct.
i can login to the Console as root (and even start the X from the command line)
i can login to the X with 'user1'.
i cannot preform, within the X, any action that requires root.
I always face this problem because I write other languages than English and forget to switch the input language back to English before I type a password!
i have only one language install - and its english. i even tried a copy paste and it didnt work.
i think i can add a new sympthom to the problem.
***it seems like i cannot swith to root while under other users.
not even in the Console it self (cant use su -)
not even in the X (cant enter the configur your computer).
here is a shorten version of the problem (but still complicated...)
i can login as root.
i can su from root to other users.
but if i try to su from regular users to root' i get "incorrect password" but the password itself is correct.
Try using sudo rather than su. Also, make sure that your keyboard settings are correct, as this can switch some characters around (especially punctuation).
